BOSTON (AP) - An 18-year-old Boston youth suffered serious head and neck injuries and was feared paralyzed after leaping off a bridge at Carson Beach.

Police say the Dorchester youth was pulled from the water by bystanders at about 5 p.m. Sunday and taken to Boston Medical Center.

The teen was diving off the bridge with friends. Signs on the bridge, located along the Harborwalk near Bayside Expo Center, say diving is not allowed.

The bridge juts out over relatively shallow water, and some large rocks can be seen near the surface.

Witness Aubrey Stowers tells the Boston Herald (https://bit.ly/1kXIg42 ) the victim was bleeding from a large gash on the back of his head.

Boston EMS said the victim was conscious but “unable to move extremities.”
