BOSTON (AP) - A tractor trailer has struck the roof of the Tip O’Neill Tunnel along Interstate 93, becoming wedged inside.

Massachusetts State Police spokesman Dave Procopio says the incident happened just after 9 p.m. Sunday. Troopers were able to lower the truck and it was driven out. Procopio says the tunnel’s ceiling will be examined by inspectors from the state Department of Transportation.

Motorist Hillary Doolittle of Quincy says she was headed into the tunnel while driving home from church in Boston when she saw the tractor trailer scraping the tunnel’s ceiling. She says she had to swerve to avoid chunks of cement.
