NORTH HARTLAND, Vt. (AP) - A Vermont truck inspector says the failure of a locking pin caused a truck to lose a 162-foot bridge beam on Interstate 91 in North Hartland.

There were no injuries in the Monday morning crash.

The Vermont Department of Motor Vehicles Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit says an initial inspection pointed to a hydraulic pin failure that allowed a steerable axle to become unlocked.

The truck had been operating with the proper permits. The investigation into the crash is continuing.

The beam was headed to a bridge project in Massachusetts. It will be returned to its manufacturer in Claremont, New Hampshire, to be checked for damage.
