WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) - Tweeters are being given a chance to name a rare baby crane at the Palm Beach Zoo.

The zoo will be counting tweets in a 24-hour period beginning Tuesday at 3 p.m. to determine what to call a red-crowned crane chick.

The zookeeper has come up with three choices, each in Japanese to pay homage to the crane’s native habitat: Kaze, which means wind; Tobu, which means fly; and Kakashi, which means scarecrow.

Write-in votes aren’t being allowed.

The male chick was born three weeks ago. The Palm Beach Post (https://bit.ly/1lJNekZ ) reports red-crowned cranes are severely endangered with fewer than 3,000 remaining.

The Palm Beach Zoo is among those participating in a species survival plan for the crane.
