SAN DIEGO (AP) - San Diego County authorities say a man accused of stabbing and seriously wounding his 21-year-old girlfriend has died in custody.
Deputy District Attorney Mary Loeb told a judge during a hearing Wednesday that Brandon Lee Mason died May 2.
The prosecutor did not disclose any details about his death.
U-T San Diego says (https://bit.ly/1lEG2Gv) Mason was accused of stabbing the victim after she broke up with him.
A neighbor came to the victim’s aid and helped slow the bleeding, but the wound was serious enough to require surgery. She has since recovered.
Mason was arrested March 11, after Chula Vista police found him hiding in a trash bin.
He was booked on suspicion of attempted murder.
Mason, who was on probation, had been released from jail three days before the stabbing.
