GILBERT, Ariz. (AP) - Authorities say an off-duty police officer crashed his vehicle into a Gilbert church.

Gilbert police say the officer was driving his three children - ages 4, 5, and 7 - Wednesday around 10 a.m. when his SUV slammed into Victory Tabernacle Pentecostal Church.

Police spokesman Jesse Sanger says the officer, whose identity was not released, suffered some sort of medical episode.

Two people who were nearby helped get the children, who were not hurt, and the driver out of the car.

Sanger says the officer was taken to a hospital. No one in the church was injured.

The 29-year-old officer is a six-year veteran of the Gilbert Police Department.
