LOWELL, Mass. (AP) - A Lowell man charged with fatally stabbing a city woman over the weekend is headed to court.

James Sheedy is scheduled to be arraigned on a murder charge Monday in Lowell District Court in connection with the Saturday night stabbing.

Police responded to a city apartment at about 9:30 p.m. Saturday where the found the woman suffering from several stab wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim’s name was not made public.

The 53-year-old Sheedy was not the scene of the slaying but was arrested nearby. It was not immediately clear if he had a lawyer.
