JOHANNESBURG (AP) - The South African Football Association says it won’t be renewing national team coach Gordon Igesund’s contract when it expires at the end of August and is searching for a replacement to lead Bafana Bafana in qualifying for next year’s African Cup.

SAFA said its executive committee decided Monday to let Igesund go after he failed with his two targets: to reach at least the semifinals of the African Cup last year and qualify South Africa for this month’s World Cup in Brazil. Igesund’s two-year contract expires on Aug. 31.

Nigeria coach Stephen Keshi has been touted as a possible replacement after he coaches the current African champions at the World Cup.

South Africa begins African Cup of Nations qualifying in September in a group containing defending champion Nigeria.
