EASTPOINTE, Mich. (AP) - State police have released the name of a wanted man they say died in a fiery crash in suburban Detroit after fleeing troopers on a motorcycle.

Lt. Mike Shaw said a statement Monday that the man killed in the May 24 crash was 33-year-old James M. Freeman III of St. Clair Shores.

Shaw says troopers tried to stop Freeman for reckless driving on Interstate 94, but the biker fled. Shaw says Freeman left the expressway and traveled about two miles before ignoring a red light and hitting another vehicle in Eastpointe.

Police say the motorcycle and a pickup truck caught fire.

Shaw says troopers pulled Freeman from the fire, but he died at the scene.

Shaw says Freeman was wanted for obstructing police and was carrying a .22-caliber pistol.
