MAYERSVILLE, Miss. (AP) - Two former prison guards are each scheduled for trial in January after being indicted in a plot to bring contraband into the Issaquena County Correctional Facility.

The Vicksburg Post reports (https://bit.ly/1rgjVXV ) Karrell McCoy and Sammy Cubit, both of Rolling Fork, appeared this week before Circuit Judge Isadore Patrick. Patrick set separate trials for both men for Jan. 25.

Prosecutors say McCoy and Cubit were both guards at the prison in December when they are accused of smuggling in 11 cellphones, nine cellphone chargers, more than two pounds of tobacco and cigars into the jail.

Prosecutors say the men allegedly hid the items in their jackets before giving the jackets to inmates to drop off at locations around the prison.
