AVALON, Calif. (AP) - The Coast Guard says two people managed to escape when their 40-foot pleasure boat burned and sank off Southern California’s Catalina Island.

Petty Officer Adam Eggers says the fire was reported at about 10:30 a.m. Friday about four miles north of Avalon Harbor.

The two occupants of the vessel Real Joy jumped onto an inflatable dinghy.

They were rescued by a Coast Guard crew and given a medical evaluation. No injuries were reported.
