ONEONTA, Ala. (AP) - Jurors have convicted an Alabama woman on a reduced charge in the shotgun killing of her ex-husband.

Blount County District Attorney Pamela Casey says Elsie Thomas was convicted of manslaughter Friday in the death of Matt Allen.

The 35-year-old Corner woman had been indicted on a murder charge, but jurors settled on the lesser charge after a trial that lasted a week.

Evidence shows Allen died of a shotgun blast to the heart in January 2011, and Thomas originally claimed she fired in self-defense.

Thomas was charged in the killing last year.

A judge allowed the woman to remain free on bond until her sentencing, which is set for Sept. 18.
