PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Girl Scouts of Rhode Island, Inc. has chosen a new name to be more inclusive of the Massachusetts towns that are part of the organization.

It will officially be called Girl Scouts of Southeastern New England starting Saturday.

The group said Rhode Island gained eight additional communities from Massachusetts as the national organization consolidated councils nationwide: Attleboro, Fall River, North Attleboro, Plainville, Somerset, Swansea, Westport and Wrentham.

Delegates at the annual meeting last month overwhelmingly chose the new name. They previously rejected the name Girl Scouts of Greater Rhode Island, Inc.
