JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - Gov. Phil Bryant is hosting Saturday the third annual 5K Run for Health with proceeds going to the Pediatric Heart Center at Baton’s Children Hospital in Jackson.

The run will honor four-month-old John Pearson Clay. The child died in March at Batson after being born with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome - a congenital heart defect in which the left side of the heart is underdeveloped.

The boy’s father, Wesley, is a native of Columbus.

Bryant says the run is the first to benefit the Pediatric Heart Center. The first two raised money for Batson.

Bryant says the event will to raise money to help raise awareness for heart defects and diseases in children and to remember John Pearson Clay, a child who touched many lives.
