UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. (AP) - Saginaw Valley State University says a $5 million donation from the Herbert H. and Grace A. Dow Foundation is the largest single private gift the school has received.

The school announced this week that the money from the Midland-based foundation aims to boost education in the science, technology, engineering and math, or STEM, fields. The effort will include students at the middle school, high school and college levels.

The money will be used to establish the Herbert H. and Grace A. Dow STEM Scholar Network at SVSU. The university plans to use the money to support summer camps for middle school and high school students and to sponsor undergraduate research.
