HAMPTON, Iowa (AP) - Officials have issued a swimming advisory for Beeds Lake in the northern Iowa community of Hampton.

The state Department of Natural Resources says a recent water sample collected at the state park exceeded standard levels for E. coli.

The Mason City Globe Gazette reports (https://bit.ly/1isrhrg ) the water is not closed for swimming. But officials say the advisory is a warning for visitors to take additional precautions, including showering shortly after swimming and avoiding lake water ingestion.
