BURLINGTON, Wis. (AP) - Two Racine County residents have been charged with conducting heroin sales with their small children present, and authorities said the couple even offered to leave one child as collateral to ensure their return with additional heroin.

Blair LaRose, 32, and Ashley Fay, 26, both of Salem, were charged this week with selling heroin and endangering the safety of a child, the Journal Times of Racine reported (https://bit.ly/1pVRtNg ) Friday.

The Racine County sheriff’s office says LaRose and Fay sold heroin to undercover officers three times. The suspects allegedly had the children, ages 1 and 3, with them on two of those occasions.

Deputies say the suspects even offered to leave one child behind to ensure they came back with more drugs.

A call to their public defender’s office after hours Saturday disconnected without taking a message.

Drug agents from Racine and Kenosha served a search warrant at the suspects’ home, which was in “deplorable condition,” the Racine County sheriff’s department said in a statement. The agents seized unspecified drug paraphernalia.

The children have been placed in the protective custody of Kenosha Human Services.
