DEPOSIT, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities in the village of Deposit in south-central New York have declared a state of emergency in the area around a three-story brick building that collapsed.

Deposit Mayor John O’Connor says the roof of the building, a former elementary school, partially collapsed Thursday afternoon.

A further collapse of the second and third floors led to the closure of the street and neighboring structures until further notice.

Police say the building was unoccupied and nobody has been injured.

Deposit is on the border of Broome and Delaware counties, about 30 miles east of Binghamton along New York’s Southern Tier.
