ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) - Anchorage police say a man faces an attempted murder charge after firing a gunshot that shattered the spine of his pregnant fiancée.

Officers say witnesses reported that 24-year-old James Vue got into an argument over finances with the 23-year-old mother of his four children at a mobile home park in East Anchorage late Friday night. The argument escalated, and police said Vue fired two shots, one of which struck the victim in the neck.

The victim is seven months pregnant and was taken to a hospital in critical condition. Police report that the fetus appeared to be unharmed.

Vue was already wanted for failing to appear in court on a domestic violence charge. He was being held without bail at the Anchorage Jail.
