SOUTHOLD, N.Y. (AP) - Police on Long Island are investigating the cause of a fast-moving fire that killed a 51-year-old man and destroyed several stores.

Newsday reports (https://nwsdy.li/1sv02Rb ) that the fire started just before midnight Friday in a residential building in Southold. It was extinguished two hours later.

Police say the fire appears to have started in the apartment in the rear of a residential building. That’s where the victim was found.

The man’s body was taken to the Suffolk County medical examiner’s office. His name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Fire officials say one other person was injured in the fire.

Officials say the fire spread to a building that houses several other businesses including Liberty Data Systems. The businesses were destroyed in the blaze.
