ATLANTA (AP) - A state agency is partnering with an Atlanta center to help the city’s homeless.

The Georgia Division of Family and Children is issuing food stamp benefits along with other services provided by Gateway Center at its location in downtown Atlanta. The facility offers programs and job training courses to people who do not have homes.

DCFS Director Bobby Cagle says the partnership lets the agency reach Atlanta’s most vulnerable residents and help them toward independence.

Agency staff will help people apply, verify their eligibility and receive benefits on an electronic card. People also can receive mail at the center, letting them keep their nutrition assistance.
