PRINCETON, Ind. (AP) - Police in southwestern Indiana have arrested a Louisiana man who they say fatally shot another man in the head during a fight outside a home.

Fifty-three-year-old Claude Arender of Choushatta, Louisiana, was being held Saturday on $500,000 bond in the Gibson County Jail in Princeton, about 25 miles north of Evansville.

Arender faces a preliminary charge of voluntary manslaughter in the Friday death of 21-year-old Raheim Bright of Vincennes.

Princeton Police Detective Sgt. Mike Hurt tells the Princeton Daily Clarion (https://bit.ly/1qAmHtp ) witnesses said Arender’s handgun went off when he intervened in a fight between Bright and another man. Arender allegedly told police he shot Bright.

The Associated Press left a phone message seeking comment from Arender’s court-appointed attorney, Michael Cochren.

A hearing is scheduled for July 17.
