CINCINNATI (AP) - Paddling enthusiasts in Ohio have multiple opportunities this weekend to make their ways down rivers around the state.

Cincinnati is celebrating its annual Paddlefest on the Ohio River with events throughout the weekend, including Sunday’s races from Coney Island park to the downtown riverfront. Participants in an 11-.5-mile race include Republican U.S. Sen. Rob Portman, a veteran kayaker from the area.

Meanwhile, Ohio’s Department of Natural Resources is launching a Paddle Ohio initiative to promote paddling on state rivers. Officials say the number of Ohioans with kayaks or canoes has jumped 128 percent in the last decade.

Four events are planned Sunday at Sandusky State Scenic River, Grand River State Wild and Scenic River, Stillwater State Scenic River, and Kokosing State Scenic River and Water Trail.
