GARLAND, Texas (AP) - Police have identified a knife-wielding man who was fatally shot by an officer during a confrontation outside a Dallas-area grocery store.

Garland police on Saturday identified the man who died as 30-year-old Ismael Sadiq.

Police did not immediately provide additional details on Sadiq, who was fatally shot Friday afternoon by an officer answering a report of an armed man.

A police statement says Sadiq refused orders to put down the knife and was shot after charging toward the officer, who was not hurt.

The officer has been put on paid administrative leave amid a review of the incident.
