GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) - Catholics across South Carolina are taking part in the annual Fortnight for Freedom, two weeks of events in support of religious freedom.

The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops has designated June 21 through Independence Day as the third annual Fortnight for Freedom nationwide.

This year’s events have a theme of Freedom to Service and will emphasize how religious freedom allows service to the poor and the vulnerable.

The South Carolina events begin Saturday with a mass officiated by Bishop Robert Guglielmone at St. Mary Catholic Church in Greenville.
