PINE BLUFF, Ark. (AP) - The Arkansas Department of Corrections says authorities are searching for an inmate considered armed and dangerous who walked away from a work assignment in the Pine Bluff area.

Shea Wilson, spokeswoman for the department, said late Sunday that officials have been searching all day for 47-year-old Timothy Buffington. She says Buffington, a “trusty” inmate assigned to the Pine Bluff Unit, left his work assignment Saturday evening.

Wilson says authorities are searching in Pine Bluff and other locations where he may have ties.

Buffington is serving a 20-year sentence for first-degree murder. He entered the Corrections Department in March 1999.

The search is being conducted by correctional officers and local and state law enforcement agencies.

Buffington is described as white, 5 feet 6 inches tall and 182 pounds.
