CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - Authorities are releasing little information about the death of a 19-year-old man during a struggle with a Charleston police officer.

The Charleston County Coroner’s Office said Denzel Curnell died in an apartment from a gunshot wound Friday night.

Charleston Police released no details except the officer involved was placed on leave, which is standard practice in this type of incident. The State Law Enforcement Division is investigating the death and only says it happened during a struggle.

The lack of information frustrated neighbors of the teen. Homemade signs in the apartment complex called for justice, with some people suggesting Curnell had no weapon and was on his knees when he was killed.
