SCHUYLER, Neb. (AP) - Authorities say a Columbus man was shot and killed after he fired shots at a Nebraska State Patrol trooper and led enforcement on a chase that ended in Colfax County.

The Columbus Telegram reports (https://bit.ly/1qCxuU5 ) that the incident began shortly before 1:30 a.m. Friday, when a trooper and two Columbus police officers responded to a domestic disturbance call in Columbus.

Authorities say a trooper stopped the suspect’s pickup while responding to the scene. Authorities say the driver, 32-year-old Jason Van Buskirk, fired shots at the trooper as he approached the vehicle. The pickup sped away as the trooper returned fire.

Authorities say the chase continued until the pickup ran over law enforcement spike strips. Van Buskirk then rammed his pickup into law enforcement vehicles. Officers opened fire, killing him.
