FRISCO, Colo. (AP) - A 20-year-old man accused of attacking another man with a machete near Keystone has been arrested.

The Summit County Sheriff’s Office says Tyrus Walter Vanmatre, of Littleton, is being held without bail for the June 17 attack on Swan Mountain Road east of Sapphire Point. He has been charged with first-degree attempted murder, conspiracy, first-degree assault and menacing.

The Summit Daily reports (https://bit.ly/TkZz3X ) a deputy found the 18-year-old victim stumbling on the road, covered in blood and with deep cuts on his face.

The man, whose name has not been released, told investigators Vanmatre drove him to Summit County under false pretenses and attacked him. The victim fought back, escaped and hid in the woods.

Sheriff John Minor says “this was a very tragic event and the victim is extremely lucky to have survived.”
