ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (AP) - The mayor of Atlantic City wants to make the struggling resort town a destination for cruise ships.
The Press of Atlantic City (https://bit.ly/1j1BLsE ) reports that Mayor Don Guardian wants to transform Atlantic City into a port of call for smaller cruise lines.
Guardian says an engineering study has found the city’s waterways are deep enough to accommodate cruise ships up to 200 feet long.
He plans to ask the federal government to help establish a port in Atlantic City.
Guardian sees a possible channel for ships between the Golden Nugget Atlantic City casino hotel, the Brigantine Bridge and the U.S. Coast Guard Station.
He says he’d like to make Atlantic City a stopover for the regional lines and economy lines that operate smaller cruise ships.
