NEW ORLEANS (AP) - The American Society of Engineering Education has named Nicholas Altiero its president.

Altiero is dean of the university’s School of Science and Engineering.

He took over leadership of the group at its annual conference July 18 in Indianapolis.

The organization works to enhance professional opportunities for engineering faculty members and promotes activities aimed at increasing student enrollment in engineering and engineering technology.

Altiero, who joined the Tulane faculty in 2000, succeeds Kenneth Galloway of Vanderbilt University as president of the group.
