BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) - A judge has set bail at $500,000 for a man accused of stabbing a well-known landscape, outdoors and wildlife photographer near his office in downtown Billings.

The Billings Gazette reports (https://bit.ly/1mgNxnH ) 23-year-old Zachariah James Wiseman made his initial court appearance Monday. He has been charged with deliberate homicide with a weapons enhancement for the stabbing death of 66-year-old Michael S. Sample on Thursday.

Prosecutors say Wiseman was high, possibly on meth, when he stabbed Sample three times while trying to rob him.

Sample’s images of Montana have appeared in calendars and in books, including “Montana: The Last Best Place” published in 1992 and in “Montana on My Mind,” a collaboration with Billings Gazette photographer Larry Mayer that was published in 1987.
