PHOENIX (AP) - Authorities say a 6-month-old child is dead after a fire at a Phoenix apartment building.

Phoenix Fire Department officials say crews responded to the blaze about 3 p.m. Monday at a complex near 24th Street and McDowell Road.

Authorities say a woman was able to escape the fire with three of her other young children, but the baby boy was in another room.

Fire crews were unable to get to the baby’s room due to heavy smoke and a wall of flames.

Authorities say the cause of the fire isn’t immediately clear.

Multiple units of the apartment complex were evacuated by the fire, which crews quickly brought under control.

The name of the dead baby wasn’t immediately released.
