BLOOMFIELD, Conn. (AP) - Bloomfield police are asking the public to be wary of bears after one was said to kill a dog over the weekend.

Police say residents reported a bear killed a dog Sunday in an area where an adult bear had been seen with three cubs over the previous few days.

Police said Monday that the dog was taken by its owners to a veterinarian’s office where it died. State wildlife officials have been advised of the incident.

Bloomfield police are urging people in the area where bears were seen roaming to remove bird feeders, keep dogs leashed and make loud noises when they exit their homes.
