GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) - Greenville County sheriff’s deputies say an officer has shot and wounded a suspect who approached him with a knife.

Deputy Drew Pinciaro says officers were called to a domestic problem at an apartment complex shortly before 7 p.m. Sunday

An officer spotted the suspect armed with a knife who ran from the deputy. Pinciaro said the deputy caught up with the suspect near the tennis courts and ordered the man to drop the knife. Pinciaro says the man made threats to harm himself and the officer.

The spokesman says the suspect approached the officer and the deputy fired. The man was taken to Greenville Memorial Hospital for treatment.

No one else was hurt.

The deputy is on administrative duty was the State Law Enforcement Division investigates.
