JEAN LAFITTE, La. (AP) - The Jefferson Parish Historical Commission and Jefferson Historical Society will unveil a marker June 28 to commemorate the historical significance of the town of Jean Lafitte.

The ceremony is planned for 2 p.m. at the Jean Lafitte Tourist Information Center on Jean Lafitte Boulevard.

The town is named for the buccaneer who made the south Louisiana swamps his base of operations in the early years of the 19th century and was a hero of the Battle of New Orleans in 1815.
