DICKINSON, N.D. (AP) - Dickinson police say a 31-year-old man suspected of firing shots at a passenger in a pickup has died after he was shot by police.

The Bismarck Tribune reports officers in Dickinson responded to a report of possible gunshots Saturday evening. The suspect led police on a chase through a residential area before ditching his vehicle and fleeing on foot.

Authorities on Monday identified the man as Timothy Bowling. KXMB-TV reports Bowling was originally from Mississippi, but his last known address is in the New England region.

Police say Bowling, who was armed with a handgun, was shot after an encounter with police at a Dickinson residence. He died at the emergency room of a Dickinson hospital.

The North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation is reviewing the shooting.
