WESTFIELD, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities say a western New York woman who was shot in the head by her boyfriend last week has died from her injuries.

The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office tells local media that 28-year-old Nicole Sheehan of Lancaster died Friday afternoon at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center-Hamot in Erie, Pennsylvania.

Police say she was shot the previous morning at the lakeside cottage where she was staying with her boyfriend, 38-year-old Sam Reynolds of Lancaster. Officials say Sheehan went to a neighbor’s house for assistance after being shot in the head.

Deputies were searching for Reynolds in the area along a Lake Erie beach in the hamlet of Barcelona when they heard a gunshot and found him dead in an apparent suicide.

Police say their investigation into a motive for the shooting is continuing.
