ISLAND PARK, N.Y. (AP) - A popular Long Island seafood restaurant devastated by Superstorm Sandy has reopened.

Peter’s Clam Bar in Island Park has undergone $2 million in repairs.

It was purchased by Butch Yamali and his company, Dover Caterers of Freeport two months ago.

Newsday (https://nwsdy.li/Uw8sIT ) says the last owners opened the restaurant last April but were only able to provide takeout service.

Sandy left the restaurant under 6 feet of water.

The restaurant was started as a small clam bar in 1939.

It has been popular with visitors from Manhattan and celebrities including singer Chubby Checker.
