SHREVEPORT, La. (AP) - Residents in Shreveport will have to schedule an appointment if they want the city to pick up bulk trash items such as furniture, appliances, tires and tree limbs starting July 13.

The Times reports (https://bit.ly/1iQ0Syz ) the city is also discontinuing a fee for backdoor trash collection at single-family homes as part of an overhaul of its trash collection guidelines.

Property owners also will have to arrange for trash pickup in vacant lots or unoccupied homes. And solid waste collected at curbs, except for bulk trash items, must be in containers.
