DURHAM, N.C. (AP) - Construction workers will close 11 miles of southbound Interstate 85 near Durham as part of a resurfacing project.

The North Carolina Department of Transportation says southbound lanes of I-85 will be closed from Exit 174 to Exit 164 from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. nightly until September. The DOT said the project started Monday.

Crews are detouring I-85 traffic on to U.S. Highway 15-501 south, then on to Interstate 40 west to get back to I-85.

The southbound lanes won’t close at night when bad weather stops the road work.

The DOT says work will also take place in the northbound lanes, with periodic nighttime closures.
