LAUDERHILL, Fla. (AP) - Authorities say a young boy died in a South Florida apartment fire after he and his brother were left home alone.

Lauderhill police say firefighters responded to the home early Monday morning. Officials say 9-year-old Justin Isme was able to survive by jumping from a second-story window, but 8-year-old Jayden Isme was not able to get out. Firefighters found the boy dead inside the apartment.

Police weren’t immediately identifying the parents, but a spokesman said criminal charges were possible.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
