BRENTWOOD, N.H. (AP) - A former Rockingham County jail office administrator has been sentenced to two to six years in prison for a scheme that added $37,000 to the salary of her husband, who was a corrections officer at the jail.

The Portsmouth Herald (https://bit.ly/1qu65kL ) reports that 55-year-old Anne Marie Nelson of Chester pleaded guilty Monday to two counts of felony theft by deception. In addition to serving jail time, she was ordered to pay back the money she stole.

Prosecutors say she altered time sheets to pay her husband for shifts he never worked.

She apologized in court.

Defense lawyer Gerard LaFlamme asked for a suspended sentence and 100 hours of community service for Nelson, who he said stole because she was having financial problems.
