DETROIT (AP) - A 49-year-old city bus driver was pronounced dead after crashing his coach into storefronts on Detroit’s east side.

Mayor’s office spokesman John Roach says Gregory Cotton was driving the bus along East Warren Avenue about 6:30 a.m. Tuesday when it “crossed the centerline to the other side of the road and crashed into a building.”

One passenger was hurt and was in stable condition at a hospital.

Roach says the accident is under investigation and authorities will look into whether Cotton had a medical emergency. He says Cotton had spent 13 years with the Detroit Department of Transportation.

The driver’s side of the bus was wedged against the storefronts, which included a dry cleaning business that was closed with security grates down at the time of the crash.
