PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Authorities arrested a Philadelphia police officer Tuesday and charged her with assault and other crimes over several fights involving her teenage children.

Prosecutors said Tamika Gross, 35, encouraged and participated in fights between her children and other minors between January 2012 and October 2013.

Police said that in the first incident Gross demanded that her 18-year-old son and a 16-year-old boy fight. Then other fights broke out on the block and officers responded to numerous 911 calls. Prosecutors said Gross also encouraged her daughter to enter a fight, and a 14-year-old girl reported that Gross punched her twice in the eye.

Gross is facing multiple charges including endangering the welfare of a child, corruption of minors, simple assault, and recklessly endangering. Gross turned herself in and police are processing the case. It’s not yet clear if she has an attorney.

Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey has suspended Gross for 30 days with intent to dismiss.
