JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - Professor and lawyer Wendy Scott has been named the dean at the Mississippi College School of Law.

The school announced Monday that Scott with the second woman and first African American professor to lead the law school.

Scott takes over Aug. 11 from Dean Jim Rosenblatt, who will become a full-time professor at the law school in Jackson after 11 years as leader of the school.

Scott has taught at the North Carolina Central University School of Law since 2006, including service as associate dean for academic affairs from 2009 to 2012. She previously worked as a professor at Tulane University Law School in New Orleans for 17 years, including service as vice dean for academic affairs.

She is a graduate of Harvard University and New York University Law School.
