DOUGLASVILLE, Ga. (AP) - A metro Atlanta sheriff says he’s investigating how two juvenile detainees were left in a holding cell over the weekend without food, lights and toilet paper.

Douglas County Sheriff Phil Miller tells WSB-TV (https://bit.ly/UHtt3w ) the 16 and 17-year-old boys were supposed to appear in court Friday and were meant to be taken back to a juvenile detention center after neither of their parents showed up for the court date.

Instead, Miller says the teens were left in a courthouse holding cell over the weekend and weren’t found until Monday morning.

Miller says officers aren’t supposed to leave the building at night without checking the cells and between eight to 10 officers may have been involved.
