NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Vanderbilt has cancelled a College World Series viewing party planned for fans at its football stadium because of the threat of inclement weather.

School officials still plan to invite fans to come to Vanderbilt Stadium to watch Wednesday’s “if necessary” game with Virginia if the Commodores don’t clinch the title Tuesday night.

Vanderbilt took a 1-0 lead in the best-of-3 championship series Monday with a 9-8 victory. A third game would become necessary only if Virginia beats Vanderbilt on Tuesday.

The Commodores are seeking to win their first national title in a men’s team sport. Vanderbilt’s only previous national team championship is a women’s bowling crown in 2007.
