DURHAM, N.C. (AP) - A woman currently serving time in prison has been indicted for first-degree murder in the death of a retired Durham firefighter two years ago.

A grand jury indicted 41-year-old Crystal Brandi Fox on Tuesday in the beating death of 74-year-old Donald Watson in July 2012.

Authorities released no details of what led them to investigate Fox, who is serving a 19-month sentence at the North Carolina Correctional Institution for Women for a drug conviction.

An autopsy determined Watson died from a beating to the head and had several cuts to his face and scalp. There was no sign anyone broke into the home, and a heavy crystal candlestick was found near the body.

Watson retired from the Durham Fire Department in 1992 to run a towing company.
