ABBEVILLE, La. (AP) - Louisiana State Police have arrested two more people in connection with the shooting death of an off-duty Vermilion Parish sheriff’s deputy.
Miguel Comeaux, 28, and Quintygi Richard, 24, both of Abbeville, helped Quintylan Richard, 20, elude capture after the shooting Monday, Trooper 1st Class Stephen Hammons said Wednesday.
He did not say whether Quintygi Richard was related to Quintylan Richard.
Comeaux and Quintygi Richard were booked into the parish jail Tuesday night on a charge of accessory after the fact to first-degree murder. No bond had been set for Comeaux; bond for Quintygi Richard was set at $100,000. It was not known if either was represented by an attorney.
Quintylan Richard, the suspected triggerman in the slaying of Deputy Allen Bares Jr., 51, was arrested earlier Tuesday, along with Baylon Taylor, 20.
Bares was shot about 4 p.m. Monday, shortly after calling authorities to report suspicious activity he observed at a home south of Abbeville whole mowing grass on his day off, Hammons said. When Bares confronted the suspects, who were believed to have burglarized the home, he identified himself as an officer, Hammons said. When Vermilion deputies arrived, they found that Bares had been shot several times. He died later at Abbeville General Hospital, Hammons said.
After the suspects were identified, Taylor contacted the sheriff’s office and surrendered in Abbeville, Hammons said. Quintylan Richard was found in Kaplan and also surrendered, he said.
Both men face charges of first-degree murder of a police officer, stealing Bares’ truck, and burglary. They were being held without bond at the Vermilion Parish Jail. It was not known if either is represented by an attorney.
A funeral Mass for Bares will be held Friday at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church in Abbeville.
